Blue Nectar® Tequila Wins at The San Francisco World Spirits Competition
Southfield, MI (June 6, 2012)—Michigan-based Blue Nectar Spirits Company recently announced its Blue Nectar® Tequila (Blue Nectar) received a Silver Award for its reposado at the 12th annual San Francisco World Spirits Competition. The annual competition was held in San Francisco, CA from March 22-25. Over the course of the weekend, a panel of esteemed judges evaluated 1,215 products from 61 countries. Blue Nectar competed against 64 reposados in the Tequila category and was recognized with a Silver Medal.
“As a newer addition to the tequila category, I could not be more excited about our latest award,” said BN Bahadur, co-founder of the Blue Nectar Spirits Company. “The San Francisco World Spirits Competition is a widely respected competition with talented, industry-leading judges at the helm of its tasting competition. Over the course of the weekend, the panel judged the nearly 1,000 wines and spirits that exhibited at the convention. Comprised of 33 of the finest spirits experts from distinguished restaurants and hotels, consultancies, large-scale purveyors and highly acclaimed industry journalists from major national media outlets, these industry leaders devoted three days to judging 82 classification categories of spirits.
“This year’s vibrant and talented judging panel, all of whom are experienced tasters returning from last year’s competition, were able to recognize emerging trends in the exciting spirits arena and pinpoint the leaders within each category,” said Anthony Dias Blue, The San Francisco World Spirits Competition’s Founder and Executive Director.
This year’s competition yielded a record-breaking number of entries, up 10% from the 2011 competition. The largest increase in submissions was from tequila producers, up 33% from last year’s convention. Held at the Hotel Nikko, this year’s event was the largest to date. In addition to the tasting competition, four judges also considered the bottle designs and packaging appeal of 165 entries for the Packaging Competition. This year’s competition awarded 149 double gold medals, 209 gold medals, 444 silver medals, and 258 bronze medals.
